Eyeliner Hacks for Every Eye Shape

Skone Team

A good winged eyeliner can change your entire look—but it’s not one-size-fits-all.

If your liner never quite looks right, it’s usually not your technique.
It’s your eye shape.

Most tutorials are created for one type of eye, so trying to copy them exactly can leave you frustrated. The fix is simple: adjust your liner to your shape.

Here’s how to make winged eyeliner work for your eyes.

Upturned eyes

Upturned eyes already have a natural lift, so the goal is balance.

Apply a thin line of eyeliner across your top lash line, keeping the wing soft and slightly extended. Then add a bit more definition along the lower lash line to create a more rounded, even look.

This keeps your eyes defined without over-lifting them.

Monolid eyes

With monolids, visibility is key.

Start with a thin-to-medium line along the lash line, then build a slightly thicker wing so it shows when your eyes are open. Instead of focusing on a sharp flick alone, think about creating shape and depth.

A softly blended shadow around the liner can also help define the eye and make the liner stand out more.

Almond eyes

Almond eyes are naturally balanced, so you don’t need to overwork them.

Apply an even line along the top lash line, then add a small wing at the outer corner. You can also lightly define the lower lash line for extra dimension.

Keep it simple—this shape already does most of the work for you.

The goal here is lift.

Focus your eyeliner on the outer corner, making it slightly thicker as you move outward. Extend the wing upward—not straight out—to create a lifted effect.

Avoid dragging liner too far along the lower lash line. Keeping the focus on the outer edge helps open up the eye.

What actually makes it work

It’s not about doing more—it’s about doing it right for your shape.

A long-lasting, smudge-proof eyeliner also makes a difference. When your liner stays clean and in place, your shape holds throughout the day.

Keep it simple...

Once you understand your eye shape, liner becomes easier.

Small adjustments make a big difference—and your wing starts to look right every time.
